  • CNC Machinist

    Position Summary:

    A CNC Machinist at AMB is expected to have a comprehensive understanding and ability to operate multi-axis machine tool equipment such as large bridge mills, horizontal boring mills, horizontal lathes, and large vertical lathes. This role is responsible for performing day-to-day machine operations to produce bearing propulsion systems used in naval surface combatants and submarines.

    As a CNC Machinist, you will:

    • Interpret drawings, factory documentation, and other work instructions to perform equipment, fixture, and tooling set ups.

    • Maintain and take ownership of the processes within your work cell to ensure First Time Quality, efficient operation, and production deadlines are met.

    • Utilize machine tool work cells to machine: Various copper alloys, nickel alloys, and cast steels.

    • Ensure that the quality requirements within your span of control are satisfied, and any non-conformances are communicated through the proper channels. This is done with various hand tools that include, but are not limited to: calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, surface profilometers, etc.

    • Maintain a safe and clean work cell and perform daily preventive maintenance and care using 6S and TPM ideologies.

    The ideal candidate has:

    • A self-motivated interest in continuing their education; is a lifelong learner.

    • The ability to adapt and learn various machine tool controllers. AMB currently uses Okuma and Fanuc controllers on its production lines.

    • The ability to read and understand engineering drawings, specifications, and other customer requirements.

    • Excellent communication skills as this position will be supporting and interacting with various organizations and individuals.

    • Strong work ethic. Must be willing to take ownership, be enthusiastic about overcoming challenges and technical barriers, and must contribute to finding solutions.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Applicant will occasionally move themself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.

    • Applicant will constantly remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.

    • Applicant will regularly lift and move 25lbs in all directions.

    • Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stopping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position

  • Welder

    Position Summary:

    At AMB, Welders plays a critical role in supporting the production of propulsion bearings used in U.S. Navy surface and subsurface vessels. A Welder at AMB is expected to have a comprehensive understanding and ability to perform GTAW, SMAW, and GMAW processes. This is a multi-functional role that will also have job duties within the assembly and babbitting work cells. This role is responsible for performing weld repair on castings, general assembly of large components, and centrifugal casting of babbitt.

    As a Welder, you will:

    • Interpret drawings, factory documentation, and welding procedures.

    • Maintain and take ownership of the processes within your work cell to ensure first time quality, efficient operation, and production deadlines are met.

    • Understand and execute welding procedures to weld on copper nickel, nickel copper, stainless, and various grades of cast steel.

    • Understand and execute centrifugal casting to produce plain journal bearings.

    • Understand and execute general assembly work on AMB’s various product lines.

    • Ensure that the quality requirements within your span of control are satisfied, and any non-conformances are communicated through the proper channels.

    • Maintain a safe and clean work cell and perform daily preventive maintenance and care using 6S and TPM ideologies.

    The ideal candidate has:

    • Five or more years of welding experience.

    • A self-motivated interest in continuing their education; is a lifelong learner.

    • Experience working with large raw castings weighing from 400 pounds to 20,000 pounds.

    • Knowledge of quality management systems, lean manufacturing principles, and other quality/manufacturing tools.

    • The ability to read and understand engineering drawings, specifications, weld procedures, and technical requirements.

    • Excellent communication skills as this position will be supporting and interacting with various organizations and individuals.

    • Strong work ethic. Must be willing to take ownership, be enthusiastic about overcoming challenges and technical barriers, and must contribute to finding solutions.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Applicant will need to take an aptitude test as apart of the hiring process.

    • Applicant will occasionally move themself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.

    • Applicant will constantly remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.

    • Applicant will regularly lift and move 25lbs in all directions.

    • Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stopping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position

    • Must be available for overtime and weekend hours as needed

  • Assembly/Foundry Technician

    Position Summary

    At American Metal Bearing (AMB), the Assembly/Foundry Technician is a hands-on role responsible for assembling large mechanical components and performing centrifugal babbitt casting. This position involves interpreting technical drawings, setting up equipment, and supporting various stages of production. Ideal candidates have mechanical aptitude, experience in a manufacturing environment, and a strong commitment to safety and precision.

    As an Assembly/Foundry Technician, you will:

    • Perform general mechanical assembly of propulsion components, including bearing housings and liners.

    • Set up and operate equipment for centrifugal casting of babbitt to produce plain journal bearings.

    • Support material preparation, fixture setup, and handling of large castings and subassemblies (ranging from 400 to 20,000 lbs).

    • Interpret and follow technical drawings, manufacturing documentation, and work instructions.

    • Ensure quality standards are met by performing in-process checks and reporting any non-conformances through appropriate channels.

    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment following 6S and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practices.

    • Participate in cross-functional activities and continuous improvement efforts within the production team.

    The ideal candidate has:

    • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or mechanical assembly environment.

    • Prior experience with casting related processes.

    • The ability to read and understand engineering drawings, specifications, and other customer requirements.

    • Excellent communication skills as this position will be supporting and interacting with various organizations and individuals.

    • Strong work ethic. Must be willing to take ownership, be enthusiastic about overcoming challenges and technical barriers, and must contribute to finding solutions.

    • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn new skills and processes.

    • Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, lean manufacturing, or similar quality systems.

    Physical & Additional Requirements

    • Must be able to pass an aptitude test as part of the hiring process.

    • Must be capable of maneuvering in tight and confined spaces.

    • Frequently required to remain in a stationary position (standing or sitting) for extended periods.
